Course Overview

The Biomedical Science, BSc (Hons) programme provides students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to understand human health, disease, and modern medical diagnostics. It prepares graduates for careers in healthcare laboratories, biomedical research, pharmaceuticals, and the life sciences sector.

Students study core subjects including human anatomy and physiology, cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, genetics, and pathology. The course also covers clinical laboratory techniques, disease mechanisms, medical diagnostics, and laboratory data analysis, reflecting current healthcare industry standards.

Practical laboratory training is a key part of the programme. Students gain hands-on experience using modern laboratory equipment while developing skills in sample analysis, scientific investigation, and data interpretation. They also build critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and scientific reporting skills.

Supported by experienced academics and modern laboratory facilities, graduates are well prepared for careers in clinical laboratories, biomedical research, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare organisations, or postgraduate study in biomedical and related life science disciplines.

Course Duration

The standard duration of this programme is 3 years, with flexible study options available depending on your chosen pathway:

  • 3 years – Standard degree.
  • 4 years – Degree with a work placement (sandwich year).
  • 4 years – Degree with a foundation year.
  • 5 years – Degree with both a foundation year and a work placement.

Placement Year Fee (2026/2027 Entry): Students undertaking a work placement year as part of their programme will be charged a placement year tuition fee of £1,350.

Academic Requirements

  • Bangladesh: HSC with at least 70% overall, plus an approved Foundation qualification.
  • Nepal: Standard XII (Higher Secondary) with at least 65% overall.
  • India: Standard XII with at least 65% overall from a recognised board.
  • Pakistan: Standard undergraduate entry requirements apply.
  • Sri Lanka: Standard UK undergraduate entry requirements apply.
  • Nigeria: National Diploma with a minimum GPA of 2.8/4.0 or 3.5/5.0.

English Language Requirements

  • IELTS: 6.0 overall, with no band below 5.5.
  • PTE Academic: Overall score of 59.
  • Other: Equivalent English qualifications are accepted. Pre-sessional English courses are available if required.
