Course Overview

This programme is designed for students who are passionate about understanding how past events have shaped the modern world. It explores political, social, cultural, and economic history across different time periods, helping students develop a deep understanding of historical change and continuity.

At Teesside University, students study a wide range of topics including British history, global history, modern history, war and conflict, empire, political movements, and social transformation. The course helps learners understand how historical events influence today’s societies and global relationships.

A strong focus is placed on historical research skills. Students learn how to analyse primary and secondary sources, evaluate evidence, and construct clear, well-supported historical arguments. This helps develop strong academic and critical thinking abilities.

Students also explore key themes such as industrialisation, revolution, colonialism, human rights, migration, and cultural identity. They examine how history is recorded, interpreted, and presented in museums, media, and public debate.

The programme develops important transferable skills including research, academic writing, communication, analysis, and problem-solving. These skills are highly valued in education, media, public services, and research-based careers.

Teesside University provides experienced academic staff, modern learning resources, and teaching aligned with UK history education standards. The course ensures students gain both theoretical understanding and practical research experience.

Graduates can pursue careers in education, archives, museums, heritage organisations, journalism, public services, research roles, and postgraduate study in history or related fields.
