The MRes Leadership and Management is designed for aspiring leaders, experienced professionals and future researchers seeking to develop advanced knowledge and research skills in business and management.

Through a combination of research methodology, critical thinking, analytical skills and real-world research projects, you will explore complex management challenges and develop evidence-based solutions. The programme culminates in an independent research project and dissertation, providing a strong foundation for careers in management, consultancy and business research, as well as progression to PhD or DBA study.

Academic Requirements

An Honours degree with 2:1 or above, or an equivalent international qualification.

OR

  • An Honours degree with 2:2 in a business-related subject, or a 2:2 degree in another subject with relevant professional experience.

  • Applicants with a 2:2 must demonstrate managerial or leadership experience, such as managing a team or project, through their CV and personal statement.

  • Applicants should provide a CV detailing their employment history and any leadership or management responsibilities.

  • The personal statement should explain the applicant's motivation for studying the programme, career aspirations, reasons for choosing the UK and the University of Derby, as well as demonstrate skills in independent analysis, research, independent working and resilience.

  • Listed Universities: 50% = 2:2 / 55% = 2:1
    University of Delhi, University of Chennai, University of Kolkata, University of Bangalore, University of Mumbai, Savitribai Phule Pune University.

  • 2:1 Equivalent: 60%

  • 2:2 Equivalent:55%

  • Applicable to Ecctis or UGC India-recognised institutions.

Bangladesh:

  • Bachelor's degree from a NARIC or government-recognised institution.

  • 2:1 Equivalent: 60% or GPA 3.0

  • 2:2 Equivalent:50% or GPA 2.7

Pakistan:

  • Qualification: A recognised 2-year Undergraduate + 3-year Master's, 2-year Undergraduate + 2-year Master's, 3-year Undergraduate + 1-year Master's, or 4-year Bachelor's degree.

  • 2:2 Equivalent: GPA 2.5 or 55%

  • 2:1 Equivalent: GPA 3.0 or 60%

Nepal:

  • Qualification: Degree from Tribhuvan University, Nepal University, Kathmandu University, or another ECCTIS-recognised institution.

  • Requirement: 55%

  • Additional Information: The qualifying degree is usually 4 or 5 years in duration.

Sri-Lanka:

  • Qualification: A 3-year or 4-year Bachelor's degree.

  • 2:1 Equivalent: 60% or GPA 3.0

  • 2:2 Equivalent: 50% or GPA 2.7

Nigeria:

  • Qualification: Bachelor's degree from a recognised institution.

  • 2:1 Equivalent: 60–70% or Second Class Honours (Upper Division)

  • 2:2 Equivalent: 50–59% or Second Class Honours (Lower Division)

English Language Requirements

IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with no individual component below 5.5, or an accepted equivalent qualification.

  • Academic Certificates and Transcripts – Evidence of your previous degree-level qualifications.

  • English Language Certificate – IELTS 6.5 overall with no component below 5.5, or an accepted equivalent qualification.

  • Updated CV/Resume – Detailing your full employment history and highlighting any relevant leadership or management experience.

  • Personal Statement – Explaining your motivation for studying the course, career aspirations, reasons for choosing the UK and the University of Derby, and demonstrating your research and independent working skills.

  • Evidence of Leadership/Management Experience – Where applicable, supporting evidence of experience in managing a team, project or relevant professional responsibilities, particularly for applicants with a 2:2 degree.

  • Passport/Proof of Identity – Required for international applicants as part of the application process.

Scholarships

Self-funded international students may be eligible to receive a Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship worth £2,000 towards their tuition fees.
