The Software Engineering BSc (Hons) equips you with the technical knowledge, practical experience, and professional skills required to design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality software solutions. Accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS), the degree fully meets the academic requirements for Chartered IT Professional registration, providing graduates with a recognised professional qualification that is respected by employers both in the UK and internationally. With the option to include a work placement year or foundation year, the course offers flexible study pathways while preparing graduates for careers in software engineering, application development, systems architecture, cloud computing, DevOps, quality assurance, and a wide range of roles within the global technology sector.

Course Duration

The standard duration of this programme is 3 years, with flexible study options available depending on your chosen pathway:

• 3 years – Standard degree.
• 4 years – Degree with a work placement (sandwich year).
• 4 years – Degree with a foundation year.
• 5 years – Degree with both a foundation year and a work placement.

Placement Year Fee (2026/2027 Entry): Students undertaking a work placement year as part of their programme will be charged a placement year tuition fee of £1,350.
